Chris Sutton has said his ideal punishment for Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham for attempting to break away into the European Super League would be an immediate 12-point deduction in the Premier League

All three London clubs were confirmed as founding members of the new league on Sunday night. But 48 hours later, following a huge backlash from fans and pundits alike, all of them, alongside the other three English clubs involved - Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool - pulled out.

This could prove to be a very expensive mistake, with all of the clubs potentially facing a fine for breaking their contract with the European Super League.

It remains to be seen what punishments are handed down by thePremier League, but Sutton thinks a points deduction and a fine would be a worthy punishment.

Id give them a 12-point deduction immediately and Id give them a European ban for a couple of years,he said on BT Sport.

Aleksander Ceferin [UEFA president] called them snakes, well take the venom out of the snakes. Give them a European ban, let other teams come up and compete.

Otherwise what is the deterrent?

If you expel them from the Premier League they can go and set up their own other league. I think there are things which can be done.

How do you punish a billionaire? I think we can fine the billionaires heavily and put the money into grassroots football, say 50million per club.

The likelihood of a points deduction for the big six this season appears slim at present, but what would the table look like for Londons trio of Sutton gets his way?

Currently lying ninth on 46 points with six games of the season to play,Arsenalwould fall a few places to 15th in the table and would be in a relegation battle with Newcastle, Brighton, Burnley, and Fulham.

But with a seven-point cushion over the bottom three, many would expect the Gunners to avoid the ultimate humiliation.

Spurscurrently sit sixth on 53 points following a 2-1 win over Southampton in what was Ryan Masons first game in charge on Wednesday evening.

However, a 12-point deduction would all but end their chances of Champions League qualification.

Furthermore, a battle for Europa League football would then ensue between themselves, Everton, Leeds United, and Aston Villa.

Chelseawould perhaps be the biggest losers as they currently occupy the final Champions League spot by virtue of a superior goal difference to West Ham United.

But a 12-point deduction would leave them nine adrift of the top four and failure to qualify for the Champions League couldsee them lose the chance to sign Erling Haaland this summer.

Although, they could earn a spot in next seasons competition by winning the trophy in May.

With that said, a 12-point deduction changes little at the top of the table as Manchester City would still be favourites to clinch the title, but Leicester City and West Ham would be almost be guaranteed to qualify for the Champions League.

Interestingly, Manchester United would also remain on course for a spot in Europes elite club competition.

Below, we look at how the Premier League would look with a 12 point deduction for each of the six clubs involved, with all London clubs highlighted in bold.
